Caufield, Monahan lead the way for Montreal

In a high-scoring affair at the Bell Centre, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Buffalo Sabres 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Cole Caufield and Sean Monahan each had two goals and an assist for the Canadiens, while Nick Suzuki, Brendan Gallagher, and Mike Hoffman also scored.

Tage Thompson had a goal and two assists for the Sabres, while Alex Tuch, Rasmus Asplund, and Peyton Krebs also scored.

The Canadiens took an early lead when Caufield scored just 1:27 into the game.

The Sabres tied it up a few minutes later when Thompson scored on the power play, but the Canadiens regained the lead when Monahan scored his first goal of the game.

The Canadiens extended their lead to 3-1 in the second period when Suzuki scored, but the Sabres came back with two quick goals from Asplund and Krebs.

The Canadiens regained the lead once again when Gallagher scored late in the second period, but the Sabres tied it up again when Tuch scored on a breakaway early in the third period.

The Canadiens finally took the lead for good when Monahan scored his second goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play.

Caufield added an empty-net goal with just over a minute to play to seal the victory for the Canadiens.

The Canadiens are now 2-2-0 on the season, while the Sabres are 1-3-0.
