'Daily Appraisal Sessions’: Jaishankar On PM Modi’s Leadership, Describes Him As A ‘Demanding Boss’

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds 'daily appraisal sessions' with his ministers and described him as a "demanding boss."

"Modi calls for daily appraisal sessions. He is a very demanding boss, he is a 24/7 boss," Jaishankar said on Thursday at the launch of the book 'Modi@20: Dreams Meeting Delivery', at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in the national capital. The book is an account of Prime Minister Modi's 18 years in public service, beginning with his tenure from 2001 to 2014 as Chief Minister of Gujarat to his two terms as Prime Minister from 2014.

In the book, Jaishankar has praised Modi for his leadership and his ability to connect with people. He said Modi has a "rare" ability to relate to people's aspirations and understand their needs.

Jaishankar also said that Modi had a deep understanding of international relations and that he was a "very tough negotiator." He said, "At another meeting with his ministers, Modi said that India will be seen as a 'big power' only when it takes tough and decisive decisions. We are now known for taking big strategic decisions and we are ready to defend our interests."

Jaishankar quoted Modi as saying that "The world is like a chessboard, and you have to think many moves ahead." He said that Modi always thinks about the long-term consequences of his decisions.

The book launch was attended by several senior ministers, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. A number of former diplomats, including former Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and former National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon, were also present at the event.
