Deliberations enter fourth day in Delphi double murder trial
Jury to resume deliberations Wednesday
The jury in the Delphi double murder trial will resume deliberations Wednesday morning after a three-day break. The jury began deliberating Friday after hearing closing arguments from the prosecution and defense. The jury is tasked with deciding whether Richard Allen is guilty of murdering 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German in 2017.
Allen has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution has presented evidence that Allen was on the Delphi Historic Trails the day the girls were killed. Witnesses testified that they saw Allen acting strangely that day, and that he was wearing a jacket that matched the description of the jacket worn by the killer. The prosecution also presented DNA evidence that linked Allen to the crime scene.
The defense has argued that the prosecution's case is circumstantial and that there is no direct evidence linking Allen to the murders. The defense also presented evidence that Allen has an alibi for the time of the murders.
The jury will continue deliberations Wednesday morning. If they are unable to reach a verdict, the judge could declare a mistrial.
