Major Averages End Mixed as Dow Lags
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower on Tuesday, weighed down by losses in Boeing and Chevron. The index fell 132 points, or 0.5%, to 29,208.46. The S&P 500 gained 0.3% to 3,640.65, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.9% to 10,931.67.
Boeing Leads Dow Decliners
Boeing shares fell 2.7% on Tuesday after the company announced that it would suspend production of its 737 Max jetliner for at least two months. The decision comes after two fatal crashes involving the plane in Indonesia and Ethiopia. Chevron Falls on Lower Oil Prices
Chevron shares fell 1.5% on Tuesday as oil prices declined. The price of Brent crude, the international benchmark, fell 1.2% to $64.70 a barrel. Chevron is one of the largest oil producers in the United States, and its shares are sensitive to changes in the price of oil.
