Gilmour Space Technologies Secures Funding for Launch Vehicle Development
Gilmour Space Technologies, an Australian space company, has secured $61 million in funding to develop a launch vehicle for small satellites.
The funding round was led by Blackbird Ventures and included participation from Main Sequence Ventures, Grok Ventures, and the Australian Space Agency. Gilmour Space Technologies plans to use the funds to develop its Eris rocket, which is designed to launch small satellites into orbit. The company says the Eris rocket will be capable of launching satellites weighing up to 300 kilograms into orbit.
The Australian Space Agency has also provided Gilmour Space Technologies with a $10 million grant to support the development of the Eris rocket.
The Australian government is committed to supporting the growth of the space industry in Australia. The Australian Space Agency is providing funding and support to companies like Gilmour Space Technologies to help them develop new technologies and capabilities.
The Eris rocket is expected to be ready for launch in 2023.
Once operational, the Eris rocket will provide Australia with a sovereign capability to launch small satellites into orbit. This will give Australia a competitive advantage in the global space industry.
