Haiti: Airlines suspend flights as Spirit plane hit by gunfire
American, Southwest and Frontier Airlines have suspended flights to Haiti after a Spirit Airlines plane was hit by gunfire as it prepared to take off from the country's main airport.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, as the Spirit plane was preparing to depart Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport. According to the airline, the plane was struck by gunfire as it was taxiing to the runway.
No one was injured in the incident, but the plane was damaged. Spirit Airlines has since canceled all flights to and from Haiti, and other airlines have followed suit.
The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory for Haiti, warning travelers to exercise caution due to the increased risk of crime and violence.
The incident is the latest in a series of security concerns in Haiti. In recent months, there have been several reports of kidnappings and other violent crimes in the country.
The Haitian government has condemned the attack on the Spirit plane and has vowed to investigate the incident.
