Hawaii Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener Against NAIA Life Pacific University

Balanced Scoring Leads to Dominant Win

The University of Hawaii men's basketball team opened their 2022-23 season with an impressive 100-64 victory over NAIA Division II Life Pacific University at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Monday night.

The Rainbow Warriors displayed a balanced scoring attack, with all five starters reaching double figures. Junior guard Noah Allen led the way with 18 points, while sophomore guard Justin Webster added 17 points. Junior forward Kamaka Hepa, sophomore forward Bernardo da Silva, and senior guard Noel Coleman contributed 15, 13, and 11 points, respectively.

Defense Dominates in Second Half

Hawaii's defense tightened up in the second half, holding Life Pacific to just 28.6% shooting from the field. The Rainbow Warriors forced 15 turnovers and recorded six steals.

Life Pacific was led by guard Teyvion Kirk's 16 points. However, the Warriors' size and athleticism proved too much for the Division II opponent.

Experienced Squad Shows Promise

The victory was a promising start for Hawaii, which returns four starters from last season's team that finished 18-12 overall and 9-7 in the Big West Conference.

Head coach Eran Ganot said, "I thought our guys played hard and together. We have a lot of experience on this team, and it showed tonight."

Season Outlook

Hawaii will look to continue its momentum on Thursday, November 10, when they host Division II Chaminade University at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors will then open their Big West Conference schedule on December 28 at UC San Diego.

With a balanced scoring attack, experienced leadership, and a stingy defense, the Hawaii men's basketball team has the potential to make noise in the Big West Conference this season.
