Jack Curtis and Marcus Merkelbach tabbed MIAC Players of the Week
Two Augsburg athletes were recognized by the MIAC
Augsburg University sophomore Jack Curtis, a Norwood Young America, Minn. native, and Augsburg first-year Marcus Merkelbach, from Rochester, Minn., were named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week.
The award was announced by the MIAC on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and is the first weekly honor for both athletes in their collegiate careers.
Curtis and Merkelbach's Impact This Season
Curtis
Curtis, a sprint freestyle swimmer, won three individual events during Augsburg's dual meet with Saint Mary's University on Saturday, Oct. 15.
He won the 50-yard freestyle (21.67), the 100-yard freestyle (48.79) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.62).
His time in the 100-yard butterfly set a new Augsburg record.
Merkelbach
Merkelbach, a distance freestyle swimmer, won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.09) in the Auggies' meet with Saint Mary's.
She also swam the opening leg of Augsburg's victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:45.46).
Merkelbach's time in the 1,000-yard freestyle set a new personal best and put her No. 3 on Augsburg's all-time performers' list in the event.

Augsburg's Upcoming Schedule
Augsburg will compete in the Saint John's University Diving Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 22, before returning to action in a dual meet at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday, Oct. 29.
