JetBlue has suspended flights to Haiti after a bullet struck one of the airline's planes as it was preparing to take off from Port-au-Prince.
The airline said in a statement that the incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 27, as Flight 1524 was preparing to depart for Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The plane was struck by a bullet in the lower fuselage, but there were no injuries to the 150 passengers and six crew members on board.
The plane returned to the gate and passengers were deplaned. JetBlue said it has canceled all flights to and from Haiti through Dec. 2.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
The U.S. Embassy in Haiti has issued a security alert, warning Americans to avoid the airport in Port-au-Prince due to the increased risk of violence.
The embassy also said that U.S. citizens should avoid traveling to Haiti at this time due to the ongoing political and security crisis.
The State Department has issued a Level 4 travel advisory for Haiti, urging Americans not to travel to the country due to the "extremely high" level of crime.
