Jury reaches verdict in Delphi murders trial of Richard Allen
The jury has reached a verdict in the Delphi murders trial of Richard Allen.
After deliberating for about 10 hours over two days, the jury found Allen guilty of two counts of murder in the 2017 killings of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.
The verdict followed a two-week trial in Carroll County Superior Court.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that placed Allen at the scene of the crime and linked him to the murders through DNA evidence.
Allen's attorneys argued that the prosecution's case was circumstantial and that there was reasonable doubt as to his guilt.
However, the jury ultimately rejected those arguments and found Allen guilty of both murders.
The sentencing phase of the trial is scheduled to begin on March 13.
Allen faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
The Delphi murders case has been one of the most closely followed criminal cases in Indiana history.
The victims, Abigail Williams and Liberty German, were 13 and 14 years old, respectively, when they were killed in February 2017.
The case remained unsolved for more than five years until Allen was arrested in October 2022.
Allen's arrest and subsequent trial have brought closure to the families of the victims and to the community of Delphi.
