Details of the Recall
The recall was announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on June 13, 2023. The affected butter was distributed to Costco stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
The FDA is advising consumers to not eat the recalled butter and to return it to the store for a full refund. Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, Listeria infection can lead to meningitis or bloodstream infections.
Costco is cooperating with the FDA in the recall and is urging consumers to return the affected butter to the store. The company has also removed the recalled butter from its shelves.
