Last Batch of Police Officers to Depart for Haiti November 27
UN mission in Haiti extended until July 15, 2023
140 police officers from Ghana, Rwanda, and Zambia to complete deployment as UN Police (UNPOL)
The United Nations Security Council has extended the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) until July 15, 2023, to continue supporting the Haitian National Police (HNP) and local authorities in maintaining security and stability in the country.
As part of the mission's ongoing efforts to strengthen the HNP, the last batch of 140 police officers from Ghana, Rwanda, and Zambia will depart for Haiti on November 27.
These officers will join the 1,470 UNPOL officers already deployed in Haiti, who work closely with their HNP counterparts to provide public security, including patrolling, responding to incidents, and investigating crimes.
The UNPOL officers also provide training and mentorship to HNP officers, helping to build their capacity and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Haitian police force.
The extension of MINUSTAH's mandate demonstrates the continued commitment of the United Nations to supporting the people of Haiti in their efforts to establish a stable, secure, and prosperous future.
