Map: Evacuation for Callahan Fire, in Reno's burned area
**Residents of the area are being asked to evacuate the area immediately**
A large fire has broken out in the area of Callahan Ranch, burning thousands of acres.
Several roads are closed because of the fire, including parts of Callahan Ranch, and Red Rock Road. The fire has burned over 1,000 acres.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation orders for all of Callahan Ranch, caused by the fire. Residents are being told to leave immediately and head to the evacuation center at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
The fire started at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2023. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire is burning in a remote area with difficult access, making it difficult for firefighters to contain the blaze.
There are currently no reports of any injuries or damage to structures.
The Callahan Fire is the largest wildfire in Washoe County since the Mustang Fire in 2018.
