NC State student charged after 12 shooting incidents along I-40, police say
What happened?
A North Carolina State University student has been charged with 12 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle after a series of incidents along Interstate 40 in Wake County.
The suspect, 22-year-old Alexander Matthew Campbell, was arrested on Friday, July 29, 2023, after a brief standoff with police.
According to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, Campbell is accused of shooting at 12 vehicles along I-40 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

Campbell has been charged with 12 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, which is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
He is also facing charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm within city limits.
