Pac Raises Defensive Intensity to Crush the Banana Slugs

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's basketball team opened their season with a dominant 92-65 victory over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Tuesday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Pacific jumped out to a quick start, taking a 10-point lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Tigers never looked back, extending their lead to 20 points by halftime.

Washington Shines with Record-Breaking Performance

Leading the way for Pacific was senior guard Isaiah Washington, who had a career-high 12 assists to go along with 15 points. Washington's 12 assists tied a school record for most assists in a season opener.

Washington was joined in double figures by four other Tigers, including junior forward Luke Avdalovic (18 points), senior guard Damari Milstead (16 points), senior forward Pierre Crockrell II (14 points), and sophomore guard Keylan Boone (12 points).

Tigers' Defense Stifles Slugs

The Pacific defense was also impressive, holding UC Santa Cruz to just 35.7% shooting from the field. The Tigers also forced 17 turnovers, which led to 20 points off turnovers.

The Banana Slugs were led by senior guard Ryan Harris, who had 17 points. However, Harris was the only UC Santa Cruz player to score in double figures.

Pacific Looks Ahead to Road Trip

With the win, Pacific improves to 1-0 on the season. The Tigers will now hit the road for a three-game road trip, starting with a game against the UC Davis Aggies on Friday, Nov. 11.
