West Point Cadets to Visit Downtown for Wall of Honor Dedication
On Friday, November 11, West Point Cadets visit downtown Lexington for Veterans Day weekend and the dedication of the Wall of Honor at the Fayette County Courthouse.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will take place on the courthouse lawn at 3 p.m.The Wall of Honor is a permanent tribute to Fayette County’s military veterans who died while serving their country. [1]
Memorial Wall a decade in the making
The memorial was a decade in the making and features the names of 54 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. The wall is made of black granite and is inscribed with the names of the veterans, their rank, branch of service, and date of death.
The project was spearheaded by the Fayette County Veterans Council and was funded through private donations. [2]
Limited Edition Chocolate Salutes Veterans for Veterans Day
Lexington chocolatier, Mallow Run, has created a limited-edition chocolate bar to honor local veterans for Veteran’s Day. The “Salute to Service” chocolate bar is made with dark chocolate and sea salt and features a special “Thank You” message on the packaging.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each chocolate bar will be donated to the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Other Veteran’s Day events in Lexington
- The Lexington VA Medical Center will hold its annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 12, at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at the VA Medical Center and will proceed down South Broadway to Cheapside Park.
- The Kentucky Horse Park will offer free admission to all veterans and active-duty military personnel on Veterans Day, November 11. The park will also host a special Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Walkway.
- The University of Kentucky will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the Student Center.
These are just a few of the many events that will be held in Lexington to honor veterans on Veterans Day. We encourage everyone to take some time to thank a veteran for their service.
