Rutgers Holds Off NJIT: Destiny Adams Shatters Career Highs
Scarlet Knights' All-Time Leading Scorer Powers Past 1,500 Career Points
Destiny Adams, the Rutgers women's basketball star and all-time leading scorer, had a career night on Thursday, leading the Scarlet Knights to a 61-51 victory over NJIT at the RAC.
Adams finished the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists, shattering her previous career highs in both points and rebounds. The senior forward was 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
The win was Rutgers' third straight and improved the Scarlet Knights' record to 9-4 on the season. NJIT fell to 2-10 with the loss.
Adams' Performance Highlights Team's Resilience
Adams' performance was a bright spot in a game that was otherwise sloppy at times for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights committed 20 turnovers and shot just 37.5% from the field.
But Adams was a force on both ends of the court, helping Rutgers overcome its mistakes. She was a key contributor on the defensive end, blocking two shots and grabbing four steals.
"Destiny was huge for us tonight," said Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer. "She was all over the court, making plays on both ends. She's a special player, and we're lucky to have her."
Adams Continues to Add to Her Legacy
Adams' performance on Thursday further cemented her status as one of the best players in Rutgers history. She now has 1,507 career points, moving her past Essence Carson into first place on the Scarlet Knights' all-time scoring list.
Adams is also the Rutgers' all-time leader in rebounds (916), steals (320), and blocks (163). She is the only player in program history to record at least 1,500 points, 900 rebounds, 300 steals, and 150 blocks.
"It's an honor to be the all-time leading scorer at Rutgers," said Adams. "It's a testament to all the hard work I've put in and the support I've received from my teammates and coaches."
