Shimla to set up master plan to prevent unplanned urbanization

The Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) is all set to prepare a master plan to check unplanned urbanization and haphazard construction in the city.

The plan will be prepared under the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Act, 2001, and will be in line with the state's regional plan-2021.

The mayor of Shimla, Satya Kaundal, has directed the officials concerned to start working on the master plan at the earliest.

The master plan will help in regulating the growth of the city and will ensure planned development. It will also help in checking the haphazard construction of buildings and will ensure that the city has adequate infrastructure to support its growing population.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has already started the process of collecting data for the preparation of the master plan. The data is being collected from various sources, including the census, the land records, and the building plans approved by the corporation.

The master plan is expected to be completed within a year. Once it is completed, it will be submitted to the state government for approval.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation is also planning to set up a GIS-based land information system to help in the implementation of the master plan. The system will provide information about the land use, the building plans, and the infrastructure in the city.
