A Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale to Haiti was diverted to the Dominican Republic on Sunday after the aircraft was struck by gunfire.

Spirit Airlines flight 764 was carrying 102 passengers and six crew members when it was forced to divert to the Dominican Republic after being struck by gunfire shortly after takeoff.

According to passengers on the flight, they heard loud noises and felt the plane shake. They later discovered bullet holes in the side and bottom of the aircraft.

The plane landed safely at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

In a statement, Spirit Airlines said that it is cooperating with the FAA's investigation.

The airline also said that it is providing assistance to the passengers who were on the flight.
