Surprise Readies for 10th Annual Veterans Day Parade with Road Closures and Celebrations on November 11th
Parade to Honor Veterans, Feature Local Organizations, and Showcase Community Spirit
Surprise, Arizona, is gearing up for its 10th Annual Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11th. The parade will honor veterans, feature local organizations, and showcase the community spirit of Surprise. The parade will begin at 9:00 AM at the Surprise Stadium and travel west along Bell Road to 163rd Avenue. Road closures will be in effect along the parade route from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Road Closures and Detours
The following roads will be closed during the parade:
- Bell Road from 163rd Avenue to 159th Avenue
- Regency Drive from Bell Road to 161st Avenue
- 161st Avenue from Bell Road to Peoria Avenue
- Peoria Avenue from 161st Avenue to 163rd Avenue
Detours will be in place to direct traffic around the closed roads. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes or use public transportation during the parade.
Parade Highlights
The parade will feature a variety of floats, marching bands, and community groups. Highlights of the parade include:
- Grand Marshal: World War II veteran and Surprise resident, Bob Dole
- Special guest: The Arizona Diamondbacks' mascot, Baxter
- Floats representing local businesses, schools, and organizations
- Marching bands from Surprise schools and community groups
- Vintage military vehicles
- Color guard units
Community Celebrations
In addition to the parade, there will be a number of community celebrations held throughout the day on Veterans Day. These celebrations include:
- A breakfast for veterans and their families at the Surprise Senior Center
- A free concert by the Surprise Symphony Orchestra at the Surprise Stadium
- A fireworks display at the Surprise Aquatic Center
