UH Men's Basketball Opens Season at 58th Annual Outrigger Rainbow Classic

Countdown to Tipoff: Hawaii Hosts 8-Team Tournament

The University of Hawaii men's basketball team will open its 2022-23 season at the 58th Annual Outrigger Rainbow Classic, a prestigious eight-team tournament held from November 17-20 at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors, under the guidance of first-year head coach Eric Reveno, will face a challenging field that includes BYU, Boise State, Cal, Pepperdine, San Diego, Southern Utah, and UC Riverside.

Tournament Format and Schedule

The tournament will follow a single-elimination format, with the eight teams divided into two brackets. Hawaii will compete in Bracket A, which also includes BYU, Cal, and Southern Utah.

The Rainbow Warriors will open their tournament run against Southern Utah on November 17 at 7 p.m. HST. The winner of that game will advance to the semifinals on November 18 to face the winner of the BYU-Cal matchup.

The championship game is scheduled for November 20 at 7:30 p.m. HST.

UH Roster Preview

The Rainbow Warriors feature a mix of experienced veterans and promising newcomers.

Senior guard Noel Coleman returns as the team's leading scorer and will be joined in the backcourt by junior transfer Justin Webster from Long Beach State.

In the frontcourt, Hawaii will rely on the inside presence of 6-foot-10 center Bernardo da Silva and 6-foot-8 forward Kamaka Hepa.

Tournament History

The Outrigger Rainbow Classic has a long and storied history, dating back to 1964.

Hawaii has won the tournament a record eight times, most recently in 2016.

Other notable teams that have competed in the tournament include UCLA, Kansas, Arizona, and Duke.
