Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince Flight Diverted to Punta Cana
A Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was forced to divert to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on Sunday after being struck by gunfire. The plane was reportedly hit by two bullets, causing the crew to make an emergency landing.
All passengers were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. The plane was scheduled to depart from Fort Lauderdale at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Port-au-Prince at 3:00 p.m.
According to reports, the plane was about 30 minutes into its flight when it was struck by the gunfire. The pilot immediately turned the plane around and landed safely in Punta Cana at 2:30 p.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. Spirit Airlines has not yet released a statement.
