A fatal semi-truck crash involving three vehicles has shut down a major highway in the Summerville area.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Monday on Interstate 26 near mile marker 192.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a semi-truck was traveling eastbound on I-26 when it crossed the median and struck a westbound SUV.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to overturn and catch fire.

The driver of the SUV was killed in the crash.

The driver of the semi-truck was injured and taken to a local hospital.

A third vehicle, a pickup truck, was also involved in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

I-26 is closed in both directions at mile marker 192 while crews work to clear the scene.

Traffic is being diverted off the highway at Exit 190 and Exit 194.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
