What's Next for the 4 Peoria-Area Volleyball Teams in the 2024 IHSA Sectional Finals
IHSA Sectional Finals Set for Friday and Saturday
The four Peoria-area volleyball teams that advanced to the 2024 IHSA sectional finals will be in action on Friday and Saturday.
Two of the teams, Dunlap and Morton, will be playing in the Class 3A semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m. at Metamora Township High School. Dunlap is the No. 1 seed in the sectional and Morton is the No. 3 seed. Dunlap defeated Normal University High 25-16, 25-10 in the regional final, while Morton defeated Washington 25-15, 25-17. The winner of the Dunlap-Morton match will advance to the Class 3A state tournament in Normal on Nov. 10-12.
The other two Peoria-area teams, Notre Dame and Peoria Christian, will be playing in the Class 2A semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eureka High School. Notre Dame is the No. 1 seed in the sectional and Peoria Christian is the No. 2 seed. Notre Dame defeated Princeton 25-15, 25-17 in the regional final, while Peoria Christian defeated St. Joseph-Ogden 25-16, 25-21. The winner of the Notre Dame-Peoria Christian match will advance to the Class 2A state tournament in Normal on Nov. 10-12.
Notre Dame Looking to Repeat as Class 2A State Champs
Notre Dame is looking to repeat as Class 2A state champions in 2024. The Irish won the state title in 2023 with a 25-5 record. Notre Dame is led by senior outside hitter Alexa Volk, who was named the Class 2A state Player of the Year in 2023. Volk had 350 kills, 250 digs, and 50 blocks in 2023.
Peoria Christian Seeking First State Title
Peoria Christian is seeking its first state title in volleyball in 2024. The Chargers finished the 2023 season with a 28-3 record and were ranked No. 2 in the final Class 2A state poll. Peoria Christian is led by senior outside hitter Lizzy Blunier, who had 300 kills, 200 digs, and 50 blocks in 2023.
Dunlap Hoping to Make State Semifinals
Dunlap is hoping to make the state semifinals for the second time in three years. The Eagles finished the 2023 season with a 26-5 record and were ranked No. 3 in the final Class 3A state poll. Dunlap is led by senior outside hitter Sydney Hannam, who had 325 kills, 225 digs, and 50 blocks in 2023.
Morton Aiming for State Title
Morton is aiming for its first state title in volleyball since 2011. The Potters finished the 2023 season with a 24-6 record and were ranked No. 5 in the final Class 3A state poll. Morton is led by senior outside hitter Katie Gibson, who had 300 kills, 250 digs, and 50 blocks in 2023.
The IHSA sectional finals will be a great opportunity for the four Peoria-area volleyball teams to show what they can do. All four teams have a chance to advance to the state tournament and compete for a state title.
