Williams takes over at quarterback for Hawaii in opener

Brayden Willis started at quarterback for Hawaii in the opener against Vanderbilt, and he led the Rainbow Warriors to a 38-10 victory. Willis was 18-of-27 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Willis was replaced by Joey Yellen in the second half, and Yellen was 4-of-6 passing for 43 yards. Yellen also rushed for 26 yards.

Williams, who is a sophomore, was the backup quarterback last season. He appeared in four games and completed 10-of-15 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Williams is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback from Aiea, Hawaii. He was a three-star recruit and the No. 29 quarterback in the country in the 2020 class.

With Willis starting the season opener, it is unclear if Williams will see much playing time this season. However, he is a talented quarterback with a lot of potential. If Willis struggles, Williams could be called upon to lead the Rainbow Warriors offense.
