WVU Women Move Up in 1st AP Poll of the Season
Mountaineers Now No. 13, Up Two Spots
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's basketball team moved up two spots to No. 13 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released Monday afternoon.
Strong Start to Season
The Mountaineers are 3-0 on the season, with wins over Buffalo, Robert Morris and No. 25 South Florida. WVU has also received votes in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the past two weeks.
Key Players
WVU is led by senior guard Kysre Gondrezick, who is averaging 18.3 points per game. Junior forward Esmery Martinez is also averaging a double-double, with 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
Tough Schedule Ahead
The Mountaineers have a tough schedule ahead, with games against No. 11 Indiana, No. 18 Baylor and No. 21 Michigan in the next three weeks.
NCAA Tournament Hopes
WVU is hoping to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Mountaineers have made the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four seasons, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2019.
