WVU Women's Basketball Moves Up to No. 15 in the AP Poll
WVU Women's Basketball continues to climb in the AP poll, moving up to No. 15 this week after a 2-0 start to the season.
The Mountaineers defeated Robert Morris 84-46 in their season opener and then followed that up with a 73-63 win over No. 23 South Florida.
WVU is now 2-0 on the season and has won five straight games dating back to last season.
The Mountaineers are led by senior guard Kysre Gondrezick, who is averaging 20.0 points per game. Gondrezick was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and is one of the top players in the country.
WVU will be back in action on Sunday when they host Duquesne at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers will then open Big 12 play on the road against Oklahoma on Dec. 3.
WVU is looking to build on last season's success, when they finished 22-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Mountaineers have a lot of talent and experience this season and they are hoping to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
Here are some additional highlights from the AP poll:
- South Carolina remains the No. 1 team in the country.
- Stanford is No. 2, followed by Louisville, North Carolina State, and UConn.
- Maryland is No. 6, followed by Baylor, UCLA, Kentucky, and Mississippi State.
- WVU is the only Big 12 team ranked in the top 15.
- The Mountaineers are one of three teams from the Big 12 to be ranked in the top 25, along with No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 24 Texas.
