The FSIS is urging consumers who have purchased the recalled butter to not consume it. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, and pregnant women. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled butter should return it to the store for a full refund. Costco has also posted a notice on its website with more information about the recall.
