The butter was sold in 24 states
Costco is recalling nearly 80,000 pounds of Kirkland Signature unsalted butter over possible listeria contamination, the USDA announced Friday.
The butter was sold in 24 states, including California, Texas, and Florida.
The recall includes 2-pound packages of butter with a best-by date of March 2, 2023. The butter was produced by Schreiber Foods in Wisconsin.
There have been no reports of illnesses linked to the butter, but listeria can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, listeria can cause meningitis, sepsis, and death.
If you have purchased the recalled butter, do not eat it. Return it to the store for a full refund.
