Adams Erupts for 26, Teammates Step Up in Big Ten Opener

Rutgers University's women's basketball team secured a hard-fought victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Highlanders on Tuesday evening in a game marred by a high number of fouls. Despite the physicality of the contest, the Scarlet Knights emerged triumphant with a 74-64 triumph, led by a career-high performance from sophomore forward Destiny Adams. Adams, a budding star for Rutgers, showcased her offensive prowess throughout the game. She connected on 10-of-16 shots from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, to finish with a game-high 26 points. Her previous career-high was 20 points, set last season against the University of Pittsburgh. Adams also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in a well-rounded performance. The foul count was a major factor in the game, with both teams combining for 54 fouls. Rutgers committed 27 fouls, while NJIT had 27. The constant stoppages in play disrupted the flow of the game and made it difficult for either team to establish a consistent rhythm.
